Shop Foreman will hire and train employees ensuring equipment is being inspected, repaired, and all maintenance is completed on tractors and trailers in compliance with the DOT/FMCSA Standards. Supervises all mechanics on staff to make sure repairs are done correctly, safely, and in a timely manner. Takes after hours maintenance/breakdown calls, decides and completes best action for repair. Manages parts ordering and inventory.

Shift Expectations are: Regular Shift M-F 7:00AM-3:30 PM, Nights and Weekends on call as needed

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs safety check on all repairs done in shop by mechanics to confirm completeness
  • Provides guidance and direction to all mechanics on staff
  • Direct and manage team accordingly, ensuring work is being completed timely and accurate
  • Provides training to mechanics when needed
  • Perform physical inspections of equipment in yard
  • Perform repairs as needed on tractors and trailers
  • Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work area to maintain a safe environment for employees
  • Maintain Accurate Records on all company owned equipment and updating the transportation management software as necessary
  • Document all maintenance done with work orders
  • Assist Maintenance Manager to implement shop procedures and policies through positive example and instruction to others
  • Manage part inventory and purchasing as needed while under supervision of Maintenance
  • Manager
  • Communicate with drivers on repairs needed
  • Communicate with senior management on equipment repairs
  • Ensure team of mechanics is utilizing time correctly and efficiently
  • Carries out supervisory duties as team lead, including performance appraisals, coaching and disciplinary actions
  • Takes after hour emergency calls and makes decision on best course of action for repair
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of diesel mechanics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Federal and State DOT Regulations, especially the
  • DOT's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to direct and achieve priorities, goals, and strategies
  • Minimum 3 years of Supervisory skills and abilities
  • Perform Annual Inspections on equipment
  • Perform maintenance on CMV and trailers
  • Knowledge of work orders and inventory management experience.
  • Documentation skills
  • Preferred Knowledge of TMT, PeopleNet, Thermo king Software and Sperion.

The Diesel Mechanic will work with the maintenance shop staff performing preventative maintenance and light repairs on our fleet of trucks and trailers. Will include all aspect of truck maintenance to include: tire repair, tune-up, brakes, APU, trailer reefer units, PeopleNet and other projects as assigned. The Diesel Mechanic will be reporting directly to Maintenance Manager. Maintenance Technician is responsible for inputting the data into TMT with accurate and timely work order repair information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform annual inspections on all tractors and trailers
  • Perform daily yard check and daily shop check in a systematic manner
  • Create work orders for every maintenance job
  • Inventory spare parts and keep records up to date
  • Document all maintenance done on work orders and update TMT timely & correctly
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
  • Perform all levels of preventative maintenance services on trucks such as: checking batteries, lubricating equipment and machinery
  • Lube and repair trailer equipment
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
  • Maintain work area cleanliness, appearance and safety precautions
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral communications
  • Prioritize and handle multiple projects while being punctual
  • Interact professionally with internal and external customs on all levels
  • Inform supervisor with current up-to-date information on repair status and possible delays

  • Possess a mechanical aptitude with the willingness to learn and take direction from Management.
  • Ability to accurately document repair procedures

    As the Maintenance Coordinator, you are responsible for answering OTR maintenance requests and making the most cost-conscious decisions while maximizing equipment uptime. Responsible for a variety of tasks related to maintaining and improving company facilities and equipment. Will perform data entry, ensuring 100% accuracy at all times and proactively communicating with internal and external stakeholders. Assisting with the oversight of work orders, ensuring proper safety, inventory, sanitation and mechanical functions for the Dedicated Fleet Department.

    WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE:

    TMT Administrator – Asset Management System
    Maintain and ensure system is up to date in regards to:
    Repair Orders
    Preventive maintenance scheduling
    Maintaining communication on all outside RO’s through Goggle Doc.
    Create pending RO’s and Campaign RO’s as required.
    OEM Warranty – work with warranty admin to coordinate outside warranty repairs at vendors and/or dealerships.
    FMCA Compliance
    When new parts need entered, I enter for use for PO’s & RO’s
    Enter in tire stock and sizes for all tractors & trailers.
    Maintain Tractor & Trailer records.
    All Repair orders Scanned into electronic unit files
    All hard copies of repair orders, inspections are filed
    Preventative Maintenance
    Work orders and work scheduling including prescheduling PM’s and DOT’s.
    During business hours is responsible for receiving calls regarding Breakdowns.
    Schedule maintenance outside of Sumner shop for repairs.
    Schedule mobile repairs and provide technical advise to reduce OTR costs.
    Maintain the highest standards of vendor usage while decreasing OTR cost.
    Proactively manage maintenance technology including: calling driver/ops to plan repairs utilizing:
    COMNET
    VIRTUAL TECH – Daimler Notification
    ORBCOM
    OTHERS AS BECOME AVAILABLE

    MORE ABOUT YOU:

    Minimum high school diploma degree or at least 3 years of combined work experience.
    Previous work experience in a shop setting is preferred

    • Assist Maintenance Manager to implement shop procedures and policies through positive example and instruction to others
    •  Manage part inventory and purchasing as needed while under supervision of Maintenance
    • Manager
    • Communicate with drivers on repairs needed
    • Communicate with senior management on equipment repairs
    • Ensure team of mechanics is utilizing time correctly and efficiently
    • Carries out supervisory duties as team lead, including performance appraisals, coaching and disciplinary actions
    • Takes after hour emergency calls and makes decision on best course of action for repair
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of diesel mechanics.
    • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Federal and State DOT Regulations, especially the
    • DOT's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to direct and achieve priorities, goals, and strategies
    • Minimum 3 years of Supervisory skills and abilities
    • Perform Annual Inspections on equipment
    • Perform maintenance on CMV and trailers
    • Knowledge of work orders and inventory management experience.
    • Documentation skills
    • Preferred Knowledge of TMT, PeopleNet, Thermo king Software and Sperion.



    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
